The number one question I’ve been asked since starting the Movie MacGuffin blog has been; What the heck is a MacGuffin? For those who have never heard the term, here’s a quick explanation followed by a brief intro about what the Movie MacGuffin blog is all about.

MacGuffin is a term used by the master of Suspense himself, Alfred Hitchcock, to describe an object around which the plot of a film revolves. While it is debated whether or not Hitchcock actually coined the term, it is unmistakable that there are numerous films that use a MacGuffin in some form or another. The most notable examples of MacGuffin’s that I can think of are; the one ring from the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the namesake statue from the Maltese Falcon, the mysterious glowing briefcase from Pulp Fiction, the Ark of the Lost Covenant from Indiana Jones Raiders of the Lost Ark, or the Holy Grail from the third Indiana Jones film as well as Monty Python and the Holy Grail. There are tons more, so comment on MacGuffin’s you can remember as well.

Now a little about the blog. Movie MacGuffin is a daily blog, a place for movie reviews, news and views, or anything movie related. Postings will include everything from behind the scenes articles, previews of upcoming movies, theatrical and DVD reviews, what to watch segments, filmic essays, Film Canon essentials, a Director’s series, and much more. Outside of movies, the site will also look at films younger, slightly less attractive brother, Television, to keep readers on the cusp of what’s good in that hypnotizing little box. Is there anything that you would like to see covered by Movie MacGuffin?
Movie MacGuffin is Tony Nunes
